Baker equals Lyles’ world lead, produces fifth wind-legal sub-10 effort this year with Diamond League victory in Paris By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Ronnie Baker took two big strides Saturday in Paris with his wind-legal 9.88 effort to win the men’s 100-meter dash at the annual Diamond League meeting. Baker moved into the top 10 in American history, as well as elevating among the top 25 all-time performers. Baker joined Noah Lyles, who won the USATF Outdoor title June 22 in 9.88, as the world leader this year. They also equaled Shawn Crawford, Walter Dix and Ryan Bailey for No. 9 in American history. In addition to that group of fellow Americans, Baker and Lyles are also equal to No. 25 all-time, along with Jamaica’s Michael Frater. Baker is equal to the No. 5 American all-time under all conditions and tied for 12th in history with his wind-aided 9.78 performance May 26 to win the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore. There have been 27 sub-10 wind-legal 100 performances in the world this year, with Baker leading all athletes with five. Isiah Young and Lyles have produced three apiece. More news |
